Boundaries in Clinical Hypnotherapy with experienced Senior Lecturer Louisa Coleby

For Newly Qualified and Experienced Hypnotherapists

One of the most challenging aspects of becoming a confident and effective therapist is learning how to establish and maintain appropriate professional boundaries. Many therapists enter the profession because they genuinely care about helping others, yet this very strength can sometimes make boundary setting difficult.

This interactive workshop explores the essential role of boundaries in clinical hypnotherapy and why they are fundamental to client safety, therapist wellbeing, ethical practice and professional effectiveness.

During this CPD we will explore:

• What professional boundaries are and why they matter
• Why caring and compassionate therapists often struggle with boundaries
• Recognising common boundary challenges in clinical practice
• Clinical judgement and decision-making in complex situations
• Safeguarding responsibilities and when concerns should be escalated
• Managing dual relationships and conflicts of interest
• Professional communication, contact outside sessions and social media considerations
• When and how to refer clients appropriately
• Protecting yourself from burnout, compassion fatigue and therapist drift
• Practical actions to take when boundaries become blurred

The workshop will include a range of realistic clinical scenarios, group discussion, reflective exercises and opportunities to share experiences in a supportive environment.

This session is particularly suitable for newly qualified hypnotherapists who are developing confidence in their clinical practice. It is also an excellent refresher for experienced practitioners who would like to revisit professional standards, update their thinking and reflect on how boundaries evolve throughout a therapeutic career.

Suitable for: Student hypnotherapists, newly qualified practitioners and experienced therapists seeking a professional refresher.

Format: Presentation, case studies, group discussion, reflection and practical guidance.
