The ROI of circularity: Is circularity profitable, or just a green dream?
Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) is a simple idea: the companies that put products on the market should pay for what happens to them at end of life.
It has existed for decades in packaging, electronics and batteries, and now it is expanding fast. The EU's Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation brings harmonised rules across Member States, textiles are getting mandatory EPR schemes, and countries and US states well beyond Europe are rolling out their own.
For many companies, EPR shows up as a fee on an invoice and a reporting headache. But done well, it is one of the few policy tools that can eliminate bad design, collection and recycling infrastructure, rewarding products that are built for circularity.
But it's not that easy. There is a gap between a great, decent, and a bad EPR. And Europe has them all. As the whole world puts more pressure on producers, one question is more important than ever:
How do we move EPR forward based on best practices, without repeating old mistakes from the past?
Expect:
What EPR is, and what it isn't
Why we need it: the problem it is designed to solve
Good and bad practice: schemes that drive better design, and schemes that just collect fees
Where it's headed: eco-modulated fees, new product categories, and harmonisation
Key regulations to watch in the EU and beyond, and what they mean for producers
The bigger picture: where does that leave circular economy professionals?
EPR is about to touch far more products, markets and business models than ever before.
Whether you're a producer, a consultant, a policy specialist, a recycler, or building circular solutions, this session is how you get ahead of it instead of scrambling later.
