โ๐ A note from Eugene
Weโre constantly in seasons of change, but fall always feels to me like the crossing of the Rubicon. The lifting of the oppressive summer swelter (thank you Tokyo heat island) by the cool breeze is liberating but laced with tinges of sadness. Liveliness gives way to quiet. Growth transitions to rest. Green to red to white. And we all start to feel the energetic pull.
โFor a long time, this has felt to me like a pull to darkness. Seasonal depression and dread and decay (and cold ass poorly insulated Tokyo apartments!).
โBut I now believe the cycle needs to dip before it can revive. The downswings donโt need to be accompanied by dread. Land needs to lie fallow before it can create new life. And itโs possible to meet the coldness with acceptance and its own kind of joy.
โ๐ฟ From the city, through the trees, to the sea
This is my first ever meditation hike (and to be totally honest, my first time guiding something like this ever!). The hike is in a patch of undeveloped trust land in Kamakura.
โWe will meet at Nishi-Kamakura station on the Shonan Monorail (a little adventure in itself) and walk through a well-cultivated-but-wild green area, summit Kamakurayama (for you non-hikers, donโt worry, itโs not a โproperโ mountain) and end up at the ocean at Shichirigahama.
โAlong the way weโll do a few meditative practices, soak in the changing nature, and leave our phones securely in our pockets.
โWeโll meet at 10am, leave the city, head up to the mountains, and end up at the sea. Grey to Green to Blue.
โBring a tarp or something to sit on at the beach and along the way (or raw dog it if thatโs your thing). Bathing suits optional for those of you who want the full experience. I do not plan on partaking (lol).
โHope to see you there! ๐
