Storytelling for Transit Advocates: A Hands-on Training
Two important ballot measures will be on the ballot this November: Connect Bay Area and Stronger Muni for All. Both of these were voter initiatives, and we helped organize over 1,000 volunteers, making it the largest grassroots transit advocacy effort in the region.
Building on that enthusiasm, we are hosting a hybrid training for people who want to tell their personal stories to help people understand how important transit is to you & your community.
Storytelling is one of the most powerful tools to help shape people’s beliefs or motivate them to act on their values. The way to win in November is to tell your story, out loud, to people who haven’t made up their minds.
Come to this training if you want to better understand which narrative frames resonate strongly and which ones fall flat. At this event, you'll have space to work on and practice telling your story. You'll leave with the ability to talk and write about why transit matters to you and your community, clearly and confidently, in a way that “sticks” and inspires action.
With trainings from Hayley Richardson from TransitCenter, Ronak Davé Okoye from Equity & Results, and Jeff Cretan from West Advisors, you’ll come away with:
A basic roadmap of how to change the narrative around public transportation
The role of stories in powering narrative change
Practical skills and coaching to effectively communicating your story in writing or out-loud
Tips on how to successfully pitch and place an op-ed with your story.
