Guest Lecture: Fabian Dittrich,

​Fabian Dittrich is an entrepreneur, adventurer, keynote speaker, and European Evangelist for Wispr Flow, a San Francisco–based voice AI company. He was an early employee at Zendesk before founding and running his own technology company, which he later managed from a Land Rover while crossing South America. His unconventional path has taken him across more than 80 countries, including a journey through Africa in an old Mercedes. He is also the current German freediving record holder, having reached a depth of 100 meters on a single breath.

​In this guest lecture, Fabian explores how openness can create unexpected opportunities in life and work, especially when we are willing to step outside conventional paths. Drawing on his own experiences as well as psychology, including Richard Wiseman’s research on luck, he looks at serendipity as something we can actively increase through curiosity, awareness, openness to strangers, and a willingness to enter unfamiliar situations. Many of the defining moments in his own career emerged not from careful long-term planning, but from unexpected encounters and the decision to follow them. The interactive session invites students to reflect on how openness, mindset, uncertainty, and human connection can help them create opportunities and shape a career and life beyond the conventional path.

Fabian is currently putting these ideas into practice on a 12-week road trip through 12 European countries in a 52-year-old Volkswagen van for Wispr Flow, with a different mission in every country. In Norway, his mission is to invite 47 strangers for a coffee and have a conversation with them in front of the van — turning openness, curiosity, and serendipity from abstract ideas into a real-world experiment.
