California Forever: bringing the American Dream back to California?
Can we still build big things in California?
On 27 square miles of farmland between San Francisco and Sacramento, California Forever seeks to prove that California can still be daring enough to build something entirely new.
The project aims to build a new 400,000-person city in Solano County, promising affordable homes, walkable neighborhoods, and good jobs, while testing whether the state can still build at scale. Supporters see it as a bold fix to California’s housing crisis, while critics call the project an overreach of tech money and power.
Join Students for Abundance at Berkeley for a conversation with Gabriel Metcalf, Head of Planning at California Forever and the former President and CEO of SPUR. We'll discuss the origins of California Forever, the unique challenges the project has faced, and where it's headed next.
All majors and backgrounds are welcome. Sliver Pizza will be served.
