March Podclub: Escape the Productivity Trap
March's podcast: ‘How to Escape the Productivity Trap’ - with Oliver Burkeman.
At the end of our last Podclub session on 'Motivation', one of our regulars shared that they had already achieved a lot in their life, and they were now thinking: what now? What do I do next? The group then discussed how there can be a constant pressure to always be motivated to go after the next big thing. How do we know when enough is enough?
This got me thinking about Oliver Burkeman’s book ‘Four Thousand Weeks’, that explores the questions:
• What do we do with our short amount of time here?
• If we think that 'time well spent' is time moving towards our goals - then what value do we place on that unproductive time when nothing gets done… but we feel most alive?
• When we let go of trying to control time and the idea we can get 'everything' done, then what would be the most meaningful or exciting or pleasurable thing to do?
Deep, right? This March - we’ll be discussing the podcast episode ‘How to Escape the Productivity Trap’ - an episode with Oliver Burkeman by 'Wellness with Ella' (click the link to open in Spotify... or feel free to search for this episode wherever you listen to podcasts). Hosted by your Business Mindset Coach Annie Bell.
As well as some of the usual practical productivity tips, now it’s time to get a bit more philosophical. We'll discuss how freeing it can be when we accept 'defeat' and that there is simply no way we're ever going to be able to get ALL of the important things done. Once we let go of impossible demands and any expectation everything will go to plan (if only the plan is good enough!), then we can roll up our sleeves and get on with it instead of chasing a fantasy.
💡 The catch 22 of getting things done
💡 Why the notion of ‘balance’ may not always be the answer
💡 The benefit of enjoying leisure activities without any end goal in mind
💡 Ways to approach getting what matters done
💡 How to cultivate a healthier relationship with productivity

Why aren't we reading books Annie?! This was originally going to be something called the ‘Get Sh*t Done Bookclub’. As I was researching, I realised… books are long! I’m working with busy biz owners and we work smart not hard :)
