Meaningful Longevity
Meaningful Longevity with Dr. Joon Yun
The world around us is transforming. The field of longevity is too. The promise of extending both the length and quality of human life has captured the public imagination. But human-scale breakthroughs remain elusive, and many profound social, economic, and cultural questions remain. In this session, Dr. Yun, who launched the $1 million Palo Alto Longevity Prize in 2012 and made the $2 million seed gift to launch the National Academy of Medicine Healthy Longevity Grand Challenge, explores what meaningful longevity could mean in a rapidly evolving world.
Dr. Yun is the president of Palo Alto Investors, a hedge fund founded in 1989, which he joined in 1998. He received his BA in biology from Harvard and his MD from Duke, where he co-authored one of the early papers in artificial intelligence in healthcare. He then trained and served as an attending at Stanford until 2006 as a board certified radiologist. He has served as a trustee at The Salk Institute and at The Buck Institute.
