About Event

MCBcDNA is pleased to welcome Dr. Elias Zerhouni, former Director of the National Institutes of Health and former President of Global R&D at Sanofi, for a fireside chat on biomedical research, drug development, and leadership across academia, government, and industry.

Dr. Zerhouni began his career as a radiologist and researcher at Johns Hopkins, where he helped pioneer advances in CT and MRI imaging and later served as Executive Vice Dean of the School of Medicine. From 2002 to 2008 he led the NIH, launching the NIH Roadmap for Medical Research to drive more interdisciplinary and translational science. He went on to serve as a U.S. Presidential Science Envoy and then as President of Global R&D at Sanofi, overseeing the development of medicines and vaccines worldwide.

In this conversation, we’ll discuss Dr. Zerhouni’s journey from physician-scientist to leading the NIH and global pharma R&D, how decisions get made about which science gets funded and which therapies get built, and what it takes to translate discovery into medicines that reach patients.
