ACT NOW Filmfestival tells stories at the intersection of sport and activism, spotlighting the impact of the climate crisis and the athletes and communities pushing back against it. Based in Munich, the festival grew out of Athletes Act Now, founded by Freeride World Tour rider Florian Handschuh with the goal of bringing climate action into the world of winter sports — reaching people through culture and shared experience rather than policy or statistics.

The festival's premise is that athletes have a distinct stake in climate justice: their sport is often the first thing to disappear as conditions change, whether that's vanishing snowpack, warming oceans, or unpredictable seasons. That direct exposure, paired with the visibility and influence many athletes carry, makes sport a natural entry point for talking about who bears the cost of the climate crisis and who has the power to act.

Films submitted have to feature sport and make a positive case for climate action or social justice, but the format is open — documentary, experimental, and essay-style films all fit. Since expanding to a two-day event in 2025, the festival has framed itself as more than a series of screenings: it's a gathering space for filmmakers, athletes, and audiences to watch, discuss, and carry ideas forward together, built around the belief that sport and storytelling both have real power to shift how people think and act.
