But beyond the meme, it is actually an important history. It was the first time crypto proved a simple but radical idea: open, permissionless money can pay for real things in the real world. No bank, no intermediary, no permission asked. A protocol, a willing seller and two pizzas.
That proof of concept is the foundation of everything Ethereum sits on. Stablecoins, onchain payments, DeFi, tokenised assets - none of it would be taken seriously without that moment. Sixteen years later, we're still following the same thread: money and value should move like the internet does. Openly, programmably and without gatekeepers.
