Suicide and ADHD: Matthew Lock's Story
Join us for our first live podcast of 2026 as we reflect on the life of Matthew Lock, who tragically took his own life at the age of 19.
Matthew, affectionately known as Matty, was a thoughtful, passionate and multifaceted young man. He made meaningful contributions as an influencer, presenter and community advocate, and his energy and commitment left a lasting impression on many who knew him and followed his work.
Behind his achievements, Matthew faced significant challenges. He was diagnosed with autism at 14 and later with ADHD. The support and understanding he needed did not come soon enough to help him navigate the impact of these conditions. As his difficulties intensified, he began to self medicate. His death in 2023 has had a profound and lasting impact on his family, friends and the wider community.
Matthew's story also prompts us to consider how gaps in understanding and support can compound over time, shaping outcomes that might have been different with earlier recognition and coordinated care.
In the wake of this unimaginable loss, Matthew's parents, Christine and Richard Lock, have channelled their grief into purpose. They established the Matthew Lock ADHD Charity to raise awareness of ADHD, particularly the increased risks of addiction and suicide when the condition goes unrecognised or unsupported. The charity advocates for earlier diagnosis, better understanding and timely intervention, so that other young people can access the help they need.
We are honoured to be joined by Christine and Richard, who now campaign tirelessly to improve awareness, influence change and ensure Matthew's legacy leads to greater understanding and protection for others.
Please note that this session will include open and honest discussion about suicide and its impact. We encourage attendees to consider their own wellbeing when deciding whether to participate, and to step away at any time if needed.
