Climate Hack-tion is a hackathon for university students across Australia, New Zealand, the Pacific Islands and the EU, run ahead of COP31 - the UN's annual climate summit.
Over one intense weekend, teams build a realistic working solution that helps advance one of COP31's priority areas: electrification, waste and methane reduction, resilient cities and buildings, green industrialisation, and broader climate awareness and education.
Compete for cash prizes and standout opportunities, build real skills and connections, and do something that actually matters for the planet.
Funded by the European Union.
Eligibility Criteria
Each team member must be 18 or older, and:
Be currently enrolled a uni or TAFE student in Australia, the Pacific Islands, New Zealand, or an EU member state.
EU students can join national teams lead by students from Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific. No EU-only teams.
Already finished your degree but haven't had your graduation ceremony? Still eligible.
Pacific Islands are to be read as including Fiji, Cook Islands, the Federated States of Micronesia, Kiribati, Nauru, Niue, Palau, the Republic of the Marshall Islands, Samoa, Tonga, Tuvalu, Solomon Islands, Vanuatu, and Papua New Guinea.
You must be in teams of between 3-5 people. If you're looking for a team, make sure you visit our DIscord server.
We recommend a cross-disciplinary team, including people with expertise or interest in environmental issues. Don't limit yourself with just the minimum - the more people in your team, the more things you and your team can achieve!
