Sitting In Limbo
Ase’s 2026 Disability Employment Awareness Month signature event will centre around the lived experiences of Black disabled people—particularly women and gender-diverse people—who are navigating disability, unpaid caregiving, community responsibilities, employment, and career progression.
Through lived-experience storytelling, expert facilitation, practical learning, and peer discussion, the event will help participants recognize their strengths, identify the supports and accommodations they need, and develop more sustainable approaches to employment and career advancement. It will also invite employers and service providers to consider how workplace systems must change so that responsibility for “balancing” does not fall solely on disabled persons.
