Communication that Connects and Moves Your Audience to Action with Oga Chan
Note: This event is for enrolled students of the Open University only. Please sign up with your Open University email address so we can verify your eligibility.
Do you need people to do more than just listen when you speak? What can we learn from former US President Obama and Former New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern's communication? Both mastered the art of public narrative, reaching people from all walks of life. Both stayed close to what actually mattered to the people listening.
For October's debate club speaker series, Oga will break down what made Obama and Ardern master mobilisers in an interactive online session.
Schedule
Part 0 (5 mins): Interactive (chat) icebreaker
Part I (15 minutes): The framework that helped Obama and Ardern connect with and mobilise millions.
Part II (20 minutes): Finding your own voice with public narrative, the method Harvard's Marshall Ganz teaches to top leaders and organisers at Harvard Kennedy School.
Part III (20 minutes): Q&A.
How to Make the Most of the Event
Connecting with an audience starts with building rapport, and this session gives you a chance to practise exactly that.
To participate to the greatest extent in this event, we recommend that you:
Cameras on. We're all here to learn how to communicate better, so treat this as a safe space to get comfortable being seen.
Get involved. You'll be invited to share a little about yourself (simple prompts only!) and to speak if you'd like.
Use the chat and reactions. Drop questions in the chat as we go, and I'll answer some live or save them for the Q&A. If something resonates, send a reaction!
Give as much as you'd like to get. It's a short, free session, and the more you put into the activities, the more you'll take away.
