About Event

CryoCoffee—a casual, quarterly one-hour meetup for anyone at ISTA interested in cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM), cryo-electron tomography (cryo-ET), or related topics. Whether you work directly with these techniques, develop computational methods, tackle inverse problems, or are simply curious, this is an opportunity to connect with others, exchange ideas, and find potential collaborations.

To be clear, this meetup is NOT aimed at biologists only! We will be happy to also see mathematicians, computer scientists, physicists, chemists, and basically anyone interested in cryo.

Why join?

  • Meet fellow researchers working in and around cryo-EM/ET.

  • Discuss recent results, open questions, or technical challenges.

  • Present what you freshly work on in a casual A4 mini poster.

  • Get inspired by cross-disciplinary perspectives.

📅 Date & Time: 21st January 2026, 1PM
📍 Location: ErrorBar (Downtown)

Everybody is welcome—whether you have something to present, a question to ask, or just want to listen in. Let’s create a space where our community can meet face-to-face regularly.

If you're interested, please register so we know how many people to expect. Feel free to spread the word to anyone at ISTA & XISTA who might benefit.

Program:

  • Welcome & announcements (~10 min)

  • 1st short talk (~15 min including Q&A)
Petar Petrov (Department of Physics, UC Berkeley)
    Talk topic: Laser Phase Plate

  • 2nd short talk (~10 min including Q&A)
Anton Kavaleuski (PhD @ Sazanov Group, ISTA)
    Talk topic: Gain Correction

  • Discussion & networking around mini posters
A session to share fresh ideas—not finished projects—and get early feedback from colleagues. Posters can be as simple as an A4/A3 printout. It would be great if there was at least one mini poster per each group that joins, so we can cluster around the posters to chat.

Sign up for a talk

Our speaker pipeline is steadily filling up. Please, consider signing up for a talk if you want to present your work in the near future.

Join the communication channels!

Last, but not least, there are two additional online places where you can reach the ISTA cryo community, just join in.

Looking forward to seeing you!
