Critical Minerals and the Energy Transition: What Role for Investors?
Critical minerals are essential to the energy transition, but their extraction can come at a high cost to forests, biodiversity and the rights of Indigenous Peoples and local communities. For investors exposed to mining, automotive and battery value chains, these impacts can create material risks. This raises a practical question: where do investors have leverage, and what does effective stewardship look like?
Join us for an investor roundtable exploring how investors can assess and address environmental and human rights risks in critical mineral supply chains. The discussion will draw on lessons from collaborative engagement with automotive and battery companies on responsible nickel sourcing, alongside developments in mining standards and investor expectations.
Participants will exchange perspectives on:
where investor leverage is strongest across critical mineral value chains;
what effective company engagement looks like in practice;
how investors can assess mining standards and responsible-sourcing commitments; and
where collective action could strengthen investor influence.
This will be an interactive, discussion-led session, with a small number of opening contributions followed by a moderated roundtable.
Breakfast will be served. Places are limited, and all registrations are subject to approval. You will be notified once your place has been confirmed.
Hosted by VBDO, Rainforest Foundation Norway, Oxfam and the Business & Human Rights Centre.
