Systemic Investing or Investing in Systems?
Systemic investing often starts with capital. What is available, who holds it, and what is the investment system.
But if the goal is real systems change, the starting point has to be what system do we need, and what are its characteristics.
And this begins by distinguishing between five different things often called a system:
A forum; vs.
A platform; vs.
A constellation; vs.
A weakly coupled ecosystem; vs.
A strongly coupled ecosystem?
Being able to distinguish between these is about understanding how the system actually behaves. What kinds of connections exist and how does value flow? Where does coordination come from? What holds the system together under stress?
In particular, what differentiates a weak ecosystem from a strong one? What conditions allow an ecosystem to become resilient, and beyond that, antifragile — able not just to withstand shocks, but to adapt and strengthen because of them?
These distinctions matter because each form reflects fundamentally different patterns of connection, flow, coordination, governance, and resilience. They also lead to very different outcomes when exposed to volatility over time and inherently unknowable events. Neither of which portfolio theory can predict.
In this session we'll discuss what this means, how we in Evolutesix categorize these different system forms and why those distinctions matter for entrepreneurs, investors, and systems builders.
We will then use live simulations to explore how strongly connected ecosystems vs weak ones behave under uncertainty. And what changes when capital, governance, and economic flows are structured in ways that strengthen the whole system over time.
