​Cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of death in industrialized countries, placing cardiovascular medicine at the center of modern healthcare. As such, it is closely connected to numerous medical subspecialties and shaped by technological advances as well as institutional and socioeconomic dynamics.

​The Beyond the Heart lecture series explores topics that transcend cardiovascular medicine and address the future of healthcare and medicine as a whole. The bi-monthly series is hosted by the German Heart Center Foundation at its headquarters at the Charité Campus Virchow Klinikum.

​August 25, 2026 | Precision Health for Cardiovascular Prevention: A Vision for the Next Decade

​Cardiovascular diseases remain the leading cause of death in Germany, yet many cases can be prevented through earlier detection and personalized care.

​In this talk, Prof. Landmesser introduces the Friede Springer Cardiovascular Prevention Center and its vision for advancing precision health. Discover how cutting-edge diagnostics, individualized risk assessment, and tailored interventions enable the early identification and management of cardiovascular risk—often long before symptoms appear. By combining scientific innovation with personalized medicine, the center aims to reduce the burden of heart disease and prevent life-threatening complications.

​Ulf Landmesser is Director of the Department of Cardiology, Angiology and Intensive Care Medicine at the German Heart Center of the Charité (DHZC), Campus Benjamin Franklin and a member of its executive board. He is also Professor of Cardiology at Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin and Director of the Friede Springer Cardiac Prevention Center.

​He previously served as Director of Cardiology at the Charité and held senior academic and clinical positions at University Hospital Zurich. His clinical and research work focuses on interventional cardiology, coronary artery disease, and cardiovascular prevention. He is a Deputy Editor of the European Heart Journal and has been recognized as one of the world’s most highly cited researchers.
