The Anatomy of Curiosity
A hands-on workshop by Nav Qirti
THE ANATOMY OF CURIOSITY
How to develop this superpower?
WHAT IS CURIOSITY?
Curiosity is our hunger for knowledge.
It is our instinct to understanding reality beyond what we already know.
We are born curious.
We somehow grow out of it.
As children we are curious. It seems we grow out of curiosity as we grow older.
Why do we stop asking questions that we did when we were children?
Why do we stop to observe & wonder when we see new things?
Perhaps, we become adults, we become “experts” - of our own little worlds.
Experts know everything. Experts have answers. Experts don’t ask questions.
HOW CAN WE BE MORE CURIOUS?
To be curious we need to get out of our expert world, into the world of a beginner.
To be curious we need to move from the “I know everything” mindset to “what more is there to know” mindset.
Curiosity is a fine balance between an expert’s mindset and a beginner’s mindset. Because learning starts when we accept and say - “I don’t know”
WHAT TO EXPECT
Curiosity is a behaviour. Behaviour is a muscle. The way we can train and strengthen our physical muscle, we can also train our curiosity muscle.
Based on this insight, you will get to learn and practice two key principles of skills mastery:
Principle of “Unpacking”,
Principle of “Proxy Environment” (mental gym).
You will get an introduction to the method to create your own “mental workout” to strengthen curiosity muscle.
A WORKSHOP BY NAV QIRTI
“If you take the frills out every business is a human business”
Nav Qirti is principal at Ideactio, a service design and innovation firm, and co-founder at School of MetaSkills.
He is deeply curious about the understanding of the human-machine relationship, and how this understanding can be applied in the context of organizations to create desirable futures in terms of products & services, culture and people capabilities.
His current area of focus is research & development on the topic of meta skills. Meta skills will increasingly be crucial to thrive in an age when technology & change will become faster than our ability to adapt to it.
