About Event

You may have seen our CAPE Directory - New Harvest’s comprehensive dataset of key players supporting cellular agriculture in Western Canada - you may even be on the list yourself - but do you really know the people beyond words on a page? Our Listed to Linked webinars reveal the faces behind the facilities, and for our September session we are excited to host Dr. Mehmet Tulbek and Dr. Pooba Ganeshan from the Saskatchewan Food Industry Development Centre.

The Saskatchewan Food Industry Development Centre (Food Centre) is a one-stop innovation and commercialization partner helping food, beverage, ingredient, feed, and bio-based companies move from idea to market. Their services include contract research, product and process development, pilot-scale validation, and manufacturing and commercialization support; with specialized capabilities in milling, fractionation, extrusion, fermentation, downstream processing, drying, and bioengineering.

Meet our Speakers:

Dr. Mehmet Tulbek is the President of the Food Centre and a research, technology, innovation, and agri-food industry leader. He has more than 25 years of experience in pulses, cereals, oilseeds, plant-based foods, food processing, research and development, commercialization, business development, and international technical education.

Dr. Pooba Ganeshan is the Principal Scientist of Fermentation & Bioengineering at the Food Centre and an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Food and Bioproduct Sciences at the University of Saskatchewan. He has more than 25 years of experience spanning agricultural biotechnology, molecular biology, genomics, fermentation, and sustainable bioproduct development.

The Food Centre is looking to collaborate! They are interested in:

  • Partnering with industry, start-ups, and academia to develop and commercialize next-generation food, feed, and bio-based products

  • Supporting fermentation process development, microbial system scale-up, and pilot-scale bioprocess validation

  • Collaborating on the evaluation and optimization of alternative, mixed, and lower-cost feedstocks for fermentation and bioprocessing applications

  • Developing and optimizing downstream processing, separation, concentration, purification, and drying strategies to recover high-value ingredients and co-products

  • Supporting industry projects in cellular agriculture, precision fermentation, alternative proteins, biomass fermentation, and novel bio-ingredients

By integrating scientific expertise, pilot and commercial-scale infrastructure, food safety, manufacturing, and commercialization support, the Food Centre provides a unique pathway to take you through concept, laboratory development, pilot validation, techno-economic assessment, all the way to scale-up and commercialization.

Join the conversation and learn how you can collaborate with the Saskatchewan Food Industry Development Centre!
