About Event

Fluxa Collective presents our first artist talk, led by artist and museum practitioner Amanda Lugo. Lugo will present a single edition handmade artist book utilizing the flag book structure, featuring collaged found images. A lecture will accompany the presentation of work, discussing the eugenic “La Operacion” that the US imposed on the women of Puerto Rico in the 1930s-70s. Following the presentation, we will be led through a flag-book-making workshop to explore flag books as a medium and choice of craft.

Amanda Lugo is an interdisciplinary artist and museum studies practitioner whose practice is grounded in ethnographic research and Diasporican identity. In museums, she is interested in building meaningful connections between institutions and Black and brown communities.
