Ilya Rozanov and the Five Gates of Grief

Dear beautiful humans,
On June 13th 2026, at 11 am EDT (USA/CAN), we are gathering for a one and a half hour virtual live discussion on Zoom with fellow Heated Rivalry fan and death doula Abby Goelzer. Together we will enter the intersection of masterful storytelling and healing and reflect upon her essay "Did You Hear About Rozanov?" We will stand with Ilya at "The Five Gates of Grief" and journey with him through love, loss, and liberation. The Zoom link is at the bottom of the text.
The concept of "The Five Gates of Grief" was developed by the psychotherapist, author, and soul activist Francis Weller in his book “The Wild Edge of Sorrow”. We will witness and discuss how Ilya arrives, stands at and crosses every gate, coming to the other side as a more evolved character in Season 1. It will also provide you with frameworks to deepen your understanding of his development in the upcoming seasons. The Five Gates of Grief include:
Everything we love, we will lose
The places that have not known love
The sorrows of the World
What we expected and did not receive
Ancestral grief
Don't hesitate to spread the word if you know people who would love to join.
What you will need for the ride: first and foremost, reading Abby's essay; a pen and paper or your favorite journal, your comfort drink of choice, and a calm, cozy space for yourself. Keep your streaming service ready for a very intentional reheat as we might view some of the scenes before discussing them in depth.
This event is hosted by a small group of people who found each other on the subreddit r/heatedrivalry and were deeply moved by Abby's essay.
