We host a casual 'Death Cafe' at our office on E.12th Street in East Austin on the 3rd Thursday of every month to talk about the only certainty in life...
This month, we are adjusting our schedule to better accommodate SXSW happenings and are hosting a SXSW themed Cafe. Join us for an SXSW-inspired Death Cafe where we trade the hype of "living forever" for an honest look at the finish line. As SXSW buzzes with talk of digital immortality, the "death wellness" frontier, and longevity biohacking, we’re carving out a space to discuss what it actually means to be mortal in this new age. Expect an informal, agenda-free conversation where we’ll explore whether an AI avatar can truly carry a legacy, if psychedelics are the ultimate palliative care, and why facing our mortality might be the best "life hack" of all. No lectures or sales pitches — just coffee, treats, and the empowering clarity that comes from looking the "worm at the core of the human psyche" right in the eye.
There is no agenda; conversations happen organically and can potentially cover a wide variety of topics, tips, and tomes.
Please note that while some attendees occasionally discuss difficulties navigating loss in their own lives, this is NOT a grief support group, but it is a safe, supportive space to foster death-positive conversations and draw on the perspective and experience of others.
We believe that by confronting death, people can lead much more fulfilling, productive lives. Past attendees have included Death Doulas, Hospice Nurses, Filmmakers, Celebrity Funeral Directors, Artists, Lawyers, and 'regular Joes'.
Space is limited, and we usually have a waitlist, so in the spirit of fairness, if you have reserved a seat and then no-show, you will be blocked from future events. Things come up...we understand, just kindly change your reservation status on the platform so we can offer the seat to our waitlist. :)
We usually have plentiful street parking available. We look forward to meeting everyone!
