About Event

Base Lab is a 3.5-hour session where you show up to bring a brand-new improv idea to life. You get to jump into a director’s vision—maybe a movement mechanic or a strange new format—and spend an afternoon seeing where it takes you.

The session culminates in an internal show where we perform for each other for about 25 minutes. It is the perfect spot to stretch your range and play in a way you have never tried before.

Minimal improv experience required. Anyone who has done improv (i.e. been to an improv class) is welcome.

How is Base Lab structured?

Participants will be sorted into one of two teams. Each team works with a pre-assigned director for the session. Each team will spend about two hours jamming under that director's vision/guidance. The session ends with an informal sharing where we get to watch and perform for each other.

We aren't aiming for an amazing show. We just want something guided by a curious and experimental spirit. Focus on process rather than polished outcomes.

About Base Lab

Base Lab is part of Base Improv’s effort to lower the barrier for experimental live theatrical work in Singapore. We handle the logistics so you can focus on the "what if".

Proceeds from Base Improv activities go back into sustaining spaces for improvisers to practice, experiment, and share work with an audience.

Producers

Base Lab is curated and produced by Jovi and/or Zhiming.

They have trained and performed internationally across improv and performance disciplines, and through Base Improv, aim to create thoughtful, sustainable platforms for improvisers to grow through both practice and performance.
