Commune Caravan
Wait, what... communes exist?
Yes, they do!
*cue instagram reel*
Louisa, Virginia is home to one of the highest concentration of communes in the United States.
And if you join our Commune Caravan, you'll see 3 of them!
Twin Oaks: America's oldest running commune, with 100 members, fully income sharing, and a distinct architectural style
Living Energy Farms: the best-in-class off-grid commune, with stray bale architect, DC microgrids, methane digesters, and more!
Wild Card! We will visit at least 1 or 2 other commune in the area.
More details to come but for now:
Vibes:
In depth day tours of communes
Overnight stays at Twin Oaks (be prepared to sleep in tents, your camper van, or your car! Or you may find a nearby suitable option)
Lunch and dinners - cooked by the communes themselves!
Musical guest appearances :D
Dips in the river! Bring a bathing suit or go nude
Intimate bonding time to find your future comrades
Workshops on communes, content, and whatever else comes up!
Consider bringing instruments, crafts, literature, fabulous outfits, songs, and skills to share
Hanging out with people living at the communes and beautiful camp fires at night!
Accommodations:
We'll be all camping at Twin Oaks with gorgeous fires and the works :)
Bring a tent, sleeping bag, and any other sleeping pads, air mattresses or other camping gear you might need. Twin Oaks has charming outdoor showers, but you should bring your own toiletries (including bug spray and sunscreen) and towel. Other things like a flashlight, rain gear, and mixed-season clothes are also good ideas. Earplugs will probably come in handy. Other things to keep you comfortable like a back-jack, yoga mat, or camp chair might also be nice. If you can’t bring your own camping gear or other supplies, let us know — we may be able to help.
Twin Oaks will provide breakfast, lunch and dinner, but you may want to bring extra personal snacks. Please – no pets other than service animals.
If you don't want to camp, here are other options: https://twinoaksqueergathering.org/indoor-accommodations/
Expected Costs:
Organizor's Donation: Asking for a $5 minimum to help offset the cost of fuel, extra snacks, and the time to organize everything. Also to signal seriousness you're attending as we have limited spots.
Commune Donations: As we are using commune resources, please expect to contribute $75-135 (sliding scale) if you're staying for all the programming. Please bring cash. Otherwise, if you join piecemeal, the asked contribution is:
Lunches: $5-10
Dinners: $10-15
Overnight Camping: $10-20
