Islam & Natural Philosophy
✨ Assalamu Alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh Everyone! ✨
Visiting Emeritus Professor at the School of Physics and Astronomy of the University of Leeds, Professor Basil Altaie will be holding a talk on Islam and Natural Philosophy inshaAllah.
Toward the end of the 7th century Muslims started engagement with philosophical topics through what is called ʿIlm al-Kalām. Through Kalām Muslims encountered complex questions about Divine attributes, Free will, and questions of Natural Philosophy (Physics).
Through deep studies over the last thirty years I found that those views in this respect of Natural Philosophy compose what can form the basis for an Islamic Philosophy of Science. In this talk I will be concerned with presenting the main principles of Daqīq al- Kalām and expose their conceptual implications in a modern physical perspective
