China's Economic Statecraft and Diaspora Statecraft
Audrye Wong’s book, Subversion and Seduction: China’s Economic Statecraft, explores an underemphasized aspect of China’s economic influence: positive inducements. It examines how and when different inducement strategies can achieve Beijing’s foreign policy goals. Understanding the successes and limitations of China’s economic statecraft will be critical in a world where China increasingly wields its economic clout for geopolitical influence. In the talk, Dr. Wong will also preview research from her second book manuscript on another dimension of China’s global influence - political interference and diaspora statecraft.
