Philosophy in the Park
WHAT IS PHILOSOPHY IN THE PARK ABOUT? Philosophy in the Park is a weekly outdoor gathering that brings curious minds together to dive deep into meaningful topics, improve communication skills, and build a local community. Best of all, no prior background in philosophy is needed! 😎
We believe philosophy should be accessible, casual, and open to everyone rather than confined to academic lecture halls. Each week, we pick a central theme to stretch our critical thinking and engage in thoughtful, down-to-earth discussion outdoors.
Our main goals are simple: foster Critical Thinking, Communication, and Community 🙌
📓 HOW DOES IT WORK? We explore one fresh topic every week. The upcoming subject and initial discussion starters are shared in advance on our event page.
To keep conversations engaging and personal, we break into small groups whenever more than 7 or 8 people attend. This ensures a flowing, relaxed dialogue instead of a formal lecture or debate.
General Meeting Agenda
First 15 Minutes: Arrive, settle in on the grass, and chat with fellow participants before we officially kick off.
Introduction: Welcome, a quick breakdown of how the session works, and an introduction to the topic of the week.
1.5 Hours of Small-Group Discussion: We split into smaller circles, share quick intros, and dive into the topic. Jump-off questions are provided to help guide the conversation, but you are free to take the discussion wherever it naturally flows.
Conclusion: Everyone gathers back together for a quick 1-minute wrap-up summary from each group, followed by a quick group photo.
After the official program wraps up, you are more than welcome to stick around, enjoy the park, and keep chatting with new friends!
🧧 PRICING Philosophy in the Park operates entirely on voluntary contributions! Attending is completely free, but voluntary donations help us keep these community discussions going.
🤓 FAQ
What will we talk about? What's the topic? The weekly topic is posted every Saturday on the whatsapp group.
Do I need to study or read anything beforehand? No prep work required at all. We aren't testing you on historical texts, we want to know what you think. Feel free to bring in perspectives from various traditions or personal experiences, but coming with just your own thoughts is more than enough.
Are we focusing on a specific school of thought? Not at all. We avoid dogmatic debates and welcome insights from all perspectives to keep our critical thinking sharp.
Is it mostly men who attend? Nope! Philosophy might have a reputation for being an old boys' club, but our park gatherings attract a well-balanced, diverse mix of people in a welcoming outdoor setting.
Can I come alone? Absolutely, most people show up solo the first time!
Can I arrive late? We ask that you please try to arrive on time. We build in a 15-minute buffer at the start to socialize, but arriving late after small groups have already formed can disrupt the flow of the discussion.
Where do we meet? Exact park locations and gathering spots are posted directly on the event page. Keep an eye on the event details so you can spot our group easily on the day!
