Specialty Coffee and Sustainability
Your daily cup of coffee is extracted from the global south for consumption in the global north. Coffee remains one of the most heavily traded commodities, right up there with oil, corn, and soy. Specialty coffee aims to reward high quality coffees with higher prices, but the investment and infrastructure required to create a delicious cup is extremely high, margins are incredibly thin, and prices don’t always cover the cost of production. As weather patterns change drastically due to the climate crisis, we must ask ourselves: what can we do to make coffee more sustainable? Join our panel of experts as we discuss some of the intricacies of sustainability in specialty coffee.
