BKKCAW 2026 | CSO Strategy Workshop: Fair Grid Access for Renewables in Asia

​Across Asia, countries have set ambitious renewable energy targets. Yet the pace of grid integration consistently falls behind these ambitions. Many Asian countries face strikingly similar obstacles to RE integration: grid access barriers, prioritized fossil fuel dispatch, lack of independent regulators, and non-transparent curtailment practices.

​This session will unpack shared challenges around the region, including pervasive centralized, fossil fuel-optimized power systems now under pressure to accommodate distributed variable renewables and new flexibility resources. Participants will exchange insights on how to strengthen the effectiveness of CSO advocacy on the issue, identifying common root causes of grid bottlenecks and key learnings from past ineffective approaches.
