About Event

✨ Come join Community Village for a Day of Lovingkindness Practice with the Insight Retreat Center in Berkeley ✨

"The Buddha counsels: 'Hatred does not cease by hatred but by non-hatred. This law is eternal.' The alternatives to love – namely, hate or apathy – are not viable for ourselves, for our communities or our world. There are many details to work out, but in one way or another, love will be the path forward. Fear, self-absorption and measurement create a million boundaries - lovingkindness dissolves them. During this daylong, we’ll explore the boundless friendliness of mettā and the ways that it is both the path and the fruit of meditation practice.

The day will include guided and silent sitting meditation, walking meditation, a dharma talk, and an opportunity to ask questions of the teacher."

🎟️ This is a group field trip coordinated by Community Village, to a freely offered daylong organized by the Insight Retreat Center. Registration is required via IRC, you can find all the info and sign up here.

🧺 Bring a packed lunch if you'd like to join the Community Village crew at lunch time!

ℹ️ You can learn more about Insight Retreat Center here and the teacher Matthew Brensilver here.

All are welcome. We look forward to sharing the day with you! 😊

What's Community Village?

Community Village is a community-first approach to meditation oriented towards people in their 20s and 30s - and open to ALL (we don’t check IDs! :)). Whether you want to learn how to meditate, or are an experienced practitioner: our intention is to co-create welcoming and supportive environments to build meaningful connections, get inspired and learn how to bring practice into everyday life. We are a peer-led community, co-created by its members. Some come join in!

What's Insight Retreat Center?

"The Insight Retreat Center (IRC) offers silent meditation retreats both at our center just outside Santa Cruz, CA and Online. Our retreats are focused on insight meditation (Vipassana) and the liberation teachings of the Buddha.

We are entirely supported by a community of teachers, practitioners, volunteers and donors whose generosity is the foundation for the center. With no paid staff, our retreats express the integration of practice, service, and goodwill of all who participate.

Our retreats are offered freely, as gifts to those who attend—there is no cost. Donations by those who attend make it possible to pass this gift forward to others who come to IRC."
