About Event

We are pleased to invite you to an intimate breakfast roundtable at the Ford Foundation Center for Social Justice. Together, we will explore what it will take to advance durable, community-led action across the Indian Himalaya.

The Himalaya are changing faster than almost anywhere on Earth. Mountain and forest-dependent communities are experiencing some of the earliest and most severe consequences, despite having contributed least to global warming and often having the fewest resources to adapt.

Important community-led conservation and restoration efforts are already underway across the region. Yet many remain fragmented, short-term, or disconnected from the institutions and resources needed to endure and operate across entire landscapes.

This invitation-only roundtable will bring together conservation scientists, nonprofit practitioners, policy specialists, and leaders in institutional and diaspora philanthropy around one central question: What would it take to turn promising local efforts into durable, community-led action at a landscape scale across the Indian Himalaya?

Brief framing remarks and invited interventions will give way to an open, facilitated discussion exploring what landscape-level action requires in evidence, governance, policy, partnerships, and financing—and where greater coordination could unlock meaningful progress.

Convened by ATREE USA, drawing on the Ashoka Trust for Research in Ecology and the Environment’s three decades of research and practice and the work of its Himalaya Initiative.
