How to: Show up better for the ones we love

​Most of us don’t even know how to begin.

The first text. The call after you find out. The moment you’re standing at their door and you have no idea what to say.

Because at some point, everyone we love, including ourselves, will face something that breaks life open. Illness. Loss. A diagnosis. A marriage ending. These moments come for all of us.

We freeze. We draft and delete. We tell ourselves we’ll reach out when we know the right words  and the days pass, and we still don’t know, and now it feels too late.

And if we do manage to show up once, the follow-through falls apart anyway. Not knowing what to say three weeks in. The fear of bringing it up in case they’ve had a good day and you ruin it. The guilt of pulling back because you just don’t know what to do anymore.

It’s one of the most important things we’ll ever do. And nobody ever taught us how.

​Harper is a certified coach and experienced facilitator who has been working with individuals and groups since 2014, building community and helping people navigate complex emotional, interpersonal, and life transitions. As the founder of Made Visible, a podcast and community focused on invisible illness, she draws on her own lived experience with a lifelong rare immunodeficiency, bringing deep personal understanding of invisible illness, shifting boundaries, and what it means to advocate for yourself and be truly heard. With a background in marketing, storytelling, and community-building, Harper brings that empathy to her new business, 2AM through clear, practical tools that help people show up for others with confidence and care.
