​SB 1047 is a piece of California legislation which, if passed, will require companies to guarantee the safety of future large AI models before releasing them to the public.

​California currently leads the world in frontier AI development, so the regulations passed here could have a global impact.

​Is this a sensible plan that reduces our chances for catastrophic risk, or needless red tape that wastes everyone’s time without fixing anything?

​What are the safety requirements? How large of an AI model counts as “large”?
