Foraging for Fungi – Meeting Mushrooms in Berlin and Brandenburg [in English]
Welcome to a day of guided foraging for fungi — a fun day in the forest for exploration, curiosity, connection to our local surroundings, and of course lots of fungi facts.
We'll look at and discover different mushrooms, talk about ethical foraging and fungi life cycles, and how to prepare mushrooms for food and medicine safely.
The group is kept to a small size, a maximum of 10 participants, in order to have plenty of time for questions, noticing, and being able to see clearly what is being shown.
How the day will go:
travel to location by train
introduction to fungi, insight into the ecosystem
tea and a moment to connect to the landscape and slow down
collecting fungi and identifying them together
continued exploration of the landscape
final inspection of baskets and ideas on how to prepare the mushrooms for food or medicine
What to bring
curiosity
lunch or snacks, water
outdoor clothes, good shoes
your own journal and pen if you want to take notes
a knife, a basket, maybe some paper bags to separate particular fungi
make sure to give yourself 1-2 hours for washing and preparing the mushrooms after the event or the day after in order to guarantee food safety (if we get lucky that day!)
