Fireside Chat with Mr. Kuek Yu Chuang, Deputy CEO of SPH Media
Most careers don't run in a straight line. The Yale-NUS Club is starting a fireside chat series about the turns, and we're opening with Kuek Yu Chuang, Deputy CEO of SPH Media.
Yu Chuang's own path has crossed the civil service, tech and media. He began at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs including a posting in Washington, moved to the Ministry of Law working on intellectual property, then spent over a decade in the private sector at ICANN, Yahoo, Netflix and iQIYI before joining SPH Media as Deputy CEO in 2024. He's changed lanes enough times to have real answers - when is the right moment to switch sectors? What actually transfers when you do? How do you find people willing to advise you before you're senior enough for anyone to owe you their time?
This fireside chat is especially relevant if you're in media or comms, thinking about a move between the public and private sectors, or somewhere in the first decade of your career and weighing what comes next.
