Monte Autore & Simbruini Mountains 🏔️🍂
Kicking off our Fall season with an easy hike!
This October we are escaping Rome for the stunning Simbruini Mountains — one of Lazio's most beautiful and underrated natural parks. We hike 3.5 miles to Monte Autore, eat an incredible lunch, and spend the afternoon wandering one of the most charming medieval towns near Rome. The perfect autumn day out of the city 🍂
The Plan
🚗 8:30am — We leave Rome together by car. Drive time is approximately 2 hours to Subiaco. Pick up details will be sorted in the WhatsApp group chat.
🥾 Upon arrival we begin a steady walk up until we reach a lookout point of the Simbruini Mountains then continue on to Monte Autore. The trail is 3.5 miles with beautiful autumn scenery, mountain views and crisp air.
🍽️ After the hike we sit down for lunch at Ristorante La Malga — I have personally eaten here and can confirm it is absolutely delicious.
🏘️ After lunch we take some time to explore Subiaco, a beautiful medieval town with a fascinating history, before heading back to Rome.
Difficulty
Easy to Moderate — suitable for anyone who has been on one of our previous hikes or has some walking experience.
What to Bring
🧥 Warmer layers — it gets chilly in the mountains in October so dress accordingly. Think long sleeves, a jacket and maybe a hat.
👟 Good walking sneakers or hiking shoes — no flat shoes or sandals
💶 Cash for lunch and anything you buy in Subiaco
💧 Water bottle and snacks for the trail
Cost
This is a paid hike. The cost per person covers your share of the rental car and fuel. Final amount will be confirmed once we know how many people are joining — the more the merrier as it brings the cost down for everyone!
🚗 If you have a valid Italian driver's license please let me know when you RSVP — we may need multiple drivers and cars depending on the group size.
