Locally Sourced - Why Local Politics Matters
Your tomatoes are locally sourced. Your sausage, egg, and cheese? Served by your local bodega. But what about your politics?
Too many of us know more about national drama than we do about who’s deciding our rent, our schools, and our sidewalks.
Locally Sourced is a community-powered event that puts the spotlight on local power—who holds it, how they use it, and how you can shake things up.
What to expect:
A panel discussion with past and present local public officials:
Lincoln Restler, NYC Councilmember for District 33 (Brooklyn Heights to Boerum Hill to Williamsburg to Greenpoint)
Yuh-Line Niou, former NY State Assemblymember for Assembly District 65 (Lower East Side, Chinatown, FiDi, Lower Manhattan)
Timothy Hunter, Press Secretary of the NYC Campaign Finance Board
Tips for getting involved without burning out
Drinks and snacks!
Come if you’ve ever wondered:
Who actually decides what gets built in your neighborhood?
What the heck does a comptroller do?
Why your vote in local elections matters more than you think?
Because change doesn’t start in Washington. It starts on your block.
We're asking for a suggested donation of $10 to help supplement the cost of food, snacks, drinks, etc.
