About Event

Join the Mt. Adams PBA for our first burn of the fall! We'll be burning up to xx acres of mixed conifer on a private property south of Trout Lake. We'll need up to 10-15 volunteers to help with various tasks on the burn.

Who:

Anyone is welcome! You do not need to have any prescribed fire qualifications or official training to come out to this burn.

What to expect:

We will begin with a brief introduction to the basics of carrying out a prescribed burn and an overview of our plan for the day. Participants should then expect to be assigned to either an observational role or a role on the fire based on people’s experience levels and day-of burn conditions. Those roles could include helping light the interior of the burn unit or being part of the holding team, which often helps create blackline around the edges of the unit and/or monitors the unit boundary. Then we will all work on burn mop up, to create a buffer of no heat or smoke at the edges of the the burn units. We'll finish up with a group meal and reflections on the day!

To bring:

-A non-synthetic shirt and pants (cotton, wool, jeans)

-Leather boots, preferably not with a steel toe.

-Adequate food and water (2-3 quarts at least) to last you through burning and mop up, which could continue until mid-afternoon.

-A small backpack/other means of carrying water, snacks, and other items during the burn.

-Leather gloves, a helmet, and eye protection (the PBA can loan these to you - just indicate that you need to borrow any of these items in the registration form)
