Who Gets the Grant?
A Live Public-Goods Funding Experiment
If you’ve ever worked on an open-source project, a community, a research project, or anything that feels useful to the world but is hard to monetize, you’ve probably heard this sentence before:
“You should apply for a grant.”
But how are grants actually decided?
Who makes the call? What standards do they use? Why one project, and not another?
This time, GCC wants to bring that process into the room at muShanghai.
During muShanghai AI Week, we’ll invite real projects, judges, donors, and the audience to take part in a live public-goods funding experiment. Projects will give short presentations, judges will openly discuss and evaluate them, and grants will be awarded on site — with the judges explaining how they reached their decisions.
This is not a typical pitch event. What we want to make visible is: why a project deserves support, how different judges form their opinions, and how resources actually flow toward a project.
Three grants will be awarded on site:
1st Prize: 700 RMB
2nd Prize: 600 RMB
3rd Prize: 450 RMB

谁能拿到资助？一次现场公共物品资助实验
如果你做过开源项目、社区、研究，或者任何“对世界有点用、但不太容易赚钱”的东西，你可能都听过一句话：
“你可以去申请一下 grant。”
但 grant 到底是怎么被决定的？
谁在判断？标准是什么？为什么是这个项目，而不是另一个？
这一次，GCC 想要把这个过程搬到 mushanghai 的现场。
在 muShanghai AI Week 期间，我们会邀请真实的项目方、评委、捐赠者和观众一起参与一场现场公共物品资助实验。项目会进行简短展示，评委会公开讨论和评估，最后现场选出获得 grant 的项目，并解释他们的判断过程。
这不是一场普通路演，我们更想看见的是：一个项目为什么值得被支持？不同评委如何形成判断？资源究竟是怎样流向一个项目的？
本次现场将颁出三档 grant：
一等奖：700 RMB
二等奖：600 RMB
三等奖：450 RMB
