About Event

We are pleased to announce an evening conversation hosted by the Pan-African Biennale (PAB), in collaboration with Black Females in Architecture (BFA) and supported by the British Council.

The Pan-African Biennale is a new continental platform dedicated to architecture, culture, and spatial practices across Africa and its diaspora. Founded to recentre Africa within global architectural discourse, the Biennale brings together practitioners, thinkers, and institutions to explore themes of identity, memory, resilience, and decolonisation. Its inaugural edition will take place in Nairobi in 2026. More information is available at www.panafricanbiennale.org.

“Shifting the Center: From Fragility to Resilience” introduces the curatorial direction of the 2026 edition and examines how Africa’s spatial and historical conditions—from colonisation and displacement to ecological and economic pressures—continue to influence global narratives of identity and architecture. The event brings together architects, academics, and cultural practitioners for an evening of exchange, conversation, and engagement around resilience, memory, and vernacular knowledge in contemporary design.

The lecture and panel discussion will be followed by a reception hosted at The Africa Centre, offering an informal setting for continued dialogue and connection.

This gathering forms part of an international series of pre-launch events leading toward the official launch of the Pan-African Biennale in Nairobi in 2026, providing an early opportunity to engage with the ideas and debates shaping this new continental platform.
