Scaling with speed: how philanthropy can leverage novel financing to scale critical clean energy development
The Mountain West Geothermal Consortium (MWGC) is requesting your presence at a working dinner to investigate a proposed novel financial mechanism that can unlock rapid geothermal pipeline development.
Geothermal is one of the fastest paths available today for affordable, firm, and clean energy development. Despite growing investor interest in firm clean power, early commercial drilling remains difficult to finance. Most of the new projects being developed today are occurring in legacy locations where prior geothermal development has already been attempted. This limitation is stalling the geothermal pipeline at exactly the time when growth should be most rapid.
At this dinner, MWGC will share novel research outlining how philanthropic capital is uniquely suited to overcome this early commercial drilling risk. It will debut a structure for a blended, public-private revolving fund that could derisk appraisal drilling and catalyze the geothermal industry. We will share our assumptions and seek input from the philanthropic community on the size, speed, scale, and impact of such a fund.
Given your role in energy philanthropy, we would greatly appreciate your attendance and participation. Attendance is non-transferrable and contributions will be Chatham House Rule.
We hope you are able to join us for this event!
