About Event

Welcome to Psychedelic Salon Oaxaca. You're invited to join us for our next event. Please bring a friend and some of your best questions. The PsySalon has a diverse group of people from the psychedelic curious to veteran psychonauts, patients, practitioners, healers, indigenous wisdom keepers, fire starters, philsophers, writers and more.

For people new to the PsySalon, we are an ever evolving group of humans curious to learn, share and explore psychedelics, altered states of consciousness and related topics. This is a safe space to ask questions you might not be able to ask at work, home or with your usual group of friends.

PsySalon Oaxaca builds local community by creating a small island of coherence in a sea of chaos.

June 19 event topic:

The Story Psychedelics Forgot

Join Andrew Weisse as he remembers what modern psychedelic culture has overlooked.

For most of human history, Psychedelics were not used exclusively for healing. They were used for spirituality, divination, power, warfare, social bonding, recreation, initiation rites, artistic inspiration & countless other purposes depending on the culture and era.

Today, however, much of the conversation has become dominated by a single framework: therapy.

This talk examines how the therapeutic model rose to prominence, what it gets right, what it misses & what happens when an entire category of human experience is reduced to a medical narrative.

Drawing from anthropology, history, contemporary culture, and years of reporting on Psychedelics, Andrew explores a question that receives surprisingly little attention:

What if healing is only one small part of the Psychedelic story?

Guest Speaker:

Andrew M. Weisse is the publisher of The Psychedelic Blog, a Substack publication exploring how Psychedelics shape culture, relationships, grief & everyday life. Through essays, interviews & field reporting, he examines the social, cultural & psychological forces shaping the modern Psychedelic movement. His work focuses less on what happens during Psychedelic experiences and more on what those experiences reveal about the people & cultures built around them.
