Landmark Trees along the Crosstown
Inspired by the SF Landmark Tree Program and the Crosstown Trail, this outing is a mashup event for tree and hiking enthusiasts. Starting on the Crosstown Trail in Golden Gate Park, we make our way east through the Park, along the panhandle, then via Buena Vista, Dolores and Holly Parks to Saint Mary's. There we slip-stream back onto the Crosstown Trail and will end at Glen Park Station. Along this 9-mile walk with ca 400 feet of elevation gain and drop, we'll stop at 20-22 historically, culturally, or zoologically noteworthy trees from the Landmark Tree Program and discuss their relevance. Here is the rough route: Open in Google Maps. Bring water and a lunch/snack for the break we'll take along the way. A biologist will be on hand. See tree map. Offered through Walktober 2026.
