Leadership Lab: Leading in the Middle of Change
A practical online leadership lab for managers navigating pressure from above and uncertainty within their teams. Practise asking for clarity, raising a challenge constructively and agreeing a useful next step.

Middle managers are often asked to carry decisions they didn’t shape. They’re translating shifting priorities for their teams, responding to uncertainty and trying to keep the work moving. When they need clarity or support from a leader, it can be hard to know how to raise the challenge in a way that opens a path forward.
In this practical, coaching-led online lab, we’ll make space to name what’s difficult and work with real leadership situations. We’ll explore how to ask for clarity, set expectations and take an empowered next step, even when some of the bigger questions remain unresolved.
We’ll explore:
How to manage up and across when you need clarity, support or a decision
How to support your team through uncertainty while communicating honestly
How the Drama Triangle can help us notice when pressure is pulling us towards blame, helplessness or rescuing
How to shift towards creator, challenger and coach responses
How to use Gather & Grow’s Four Cs: Connect, Clarify, Co-create and Contract
How to set clearer expectations and protect your own capacity
You’ll have the chance to apply the ideas to a current situation. You choose what you share.
You’ll leave with:
Language for raising a challenge and asking for clarity
A practical way to prepare for a conversation with a leader or colleague
One next step you can take, and a clearer sense of what you can influence
Who it’s for
Huckletree members who manage people or lead work across a team, especially first-time and mid-level managers navigating change, competing priorities or unclear expectations. Members in Manchester, Dublin and across the Huckletree network are welcome.
