About Event

The weather is warming — it’s the perfect time to start our Asclepius fascicularis seeds (a.k.a. California native narrowleaf milkweed). Come to a hands-on, family-friendly workshop right here in Laurel Canyon and spend the afternoon filling scores of seed trays — we provide the seeds and the supplies; you do the planting!

Take the pots home, and when they germinate, start your own patch of milkweeds in your yard to provide a much needed nesting site for migrating monarch butterflies. Due mostly to habitat loss, their numbers have been precipitously shrinking in recent years. This is your chance to do something to stop the extinction of these magnificent creatures.

Bring in your used seedling 6-packs and small nursery pots - we love to reuse and recycle!

RSVP soon, as tickets are limited!

Please note:

  1. This workshop will be held outdoors in a sunny native garden, so flat shoes, sunscreen, and hats are recommended.

  2. Save your registration confirmation QR code in a handy spot in your phone for us to scan.

  3. As usual, we will have a table full of informative and inspirational books on California native plants for you to peruse or to purchase.

  4. A limited selection of California native plants will be available to adopt for a modest donation.

  5. If you would like to come an hour earlier (2pm), we will be discussing edible gardening - (organic but not necessarily native 😊) Please give us a heads up on the questionnaire on your event registration email.

Otherwise, see you at 3pm, on Sunday the 30th of April!
