Save Our Monarch Butterflies - Come to a Milkweed Seed-Sowing Workshop in Laurel Canyon! more info at https://lu.ma/plantnativelc202404
The rains will soon recede and the weather will warm — the perfect time to plant up our Asclepius fascicularis seeds (a.k.a. California native narrowleaf milkweed). Come to a hands-on, family-friendly workshop this Sunday and spend the afternoon filling scores of seed trays — we provide the seeds, the medium, and other supplies; you do the planting!
Take the planted trays home, and when the seeds germinate, start your own milkweed patch in your yard to provide a nesting site for migrating monarch butterflies. Due mostly to habitat loss, their numbers have been precipitously shrinking in recent years. This is your chance to do something to stop the extinction of these magnificent creatures.
Bring in your used seedling 6-packs - we love to reuse and recycle!
Canyon Kids Love Art students have created a spectacular monarch mural for selfies and photo ops….do wear your Monarch colors and let’s make a party of it!
RSVP soon, as tickets are limited!
Please note:
This fun workshop will be held outdoors in a sunny native garden, so flat shoes, sunscreen, and hats are recommended.
Save your registration confirmation QR code in a handy spot in your phone for us to scan.
As usual, we will have a table full of informative and inspirational books on California native plants for you to peruse or to purchase.
A limited selection of California native plants will be available to adopt for a modest donation.
If you would like to come an hour earlier (2pm), we will be discussing edible gardening - (organic but not necessarily native 😊) Please give us a heads up on the questionnaire on your event registration email.
Otherwise, see you at 3pm, this Sunday the 7th of April!
