THE BRITICO IRL: On England, identity and the World Cup
Our next iteration of our Diaspora Discussions series is the World Cup special!
The World Cup is seen as a time for the country to unite but how do we as Black people feel about supporting the national team? This may be the most diverse and representative England team there has ever been but it coincides with the success of Reform in recent local elections and an ever-growing hostility towards racialised communities.
We will be discussing identity through the lens of the World Cup. Whether you are supporting England or a different team or none at all, whether you are the biggest football fan or only get involved during international competitions, or whether you’re simply interested in meeting people, getting out of the house and maybe learning something new, this is for you!
Our Diaspora Discussions series brings together people from across the Black diaspora to have intimate, safe but also challenging discussions about our history, present and future.
Based on feedback from the last event, we will be spending more time on the discussion so bring a friend or two, and we can't wait to see you there!
p.s. the event will finish in time for you to get back and watch Scotland v Brazil!
