About Event

Plasmidsaurus is hosting an evening for people working in bioinformatics, in collaboration with the Bay Area Bioinformatics Forum (BayBifx), a community founded 17 years ago to tackle questions in bioinformatics software, share ideas on modern approaches to scientific problems, and bring people together to network around jobs, ideas, and aspirations. Its membership and meetups have supported bioinformatics professionals across the Bay Area for many years. The event is open to anyone working in or curious about bioinformatics, from pipeline builders to researchers who lean on these tools every day.

⚡ What to Expect

Talks to spark conversation, time with other bioinformaticians, and plenty of space to share what you're working on. We'll have food and drink on hand.

The Plasmidsaurus bioinformatics team will be presenting two talks on distinct algorithmic approaches to reducing technical noise in sequencing data, one focused on anchor-based batch correction for longitudinal RNA-seq differential expression, and the other on Bayesian genotyping and phasing-aware error correction for Oxford Nanopore PCR amplicon variant calling.

🦖 About Plasmidsaurus

Plasmidsaurus is the sequencing infrastructure for modern biology. Founded by scientists, for scientists, it was built around a simple idea: fast sequencing changes how research gets done. With a global network of drop-off locations and labs, round-the-clock operations, purpose-built automation, and integrated analysis tools, Plasmidsaurus is tuned end-to-end to deliver results researchers can trust and act on. From routine validation to complex sequencing projects, scientists around the world rely on Plasmidsaurus to keep discovery moving.

The bioinformatics team builds Plasmidsaurus's analysis layer in-house, from the methods that turn raw reads into results to the pipelines that run them across thousands of samples a day. A lot of the hard work is in the data itself: Nanopore and Illumina reads carry biological artifacts and platform-specific error patterns, and separating real signal from that noise is where much of the team's effort goes. The work spans microbial genomics, variant calling, and RNA-seq, and reaches through to the analysis tools and visualizations scientists use to interpret what comes back. Both talks tonight come out of this work. The team is hiring bioinformaticians in San Francisco who want to own problems end to end, from method development through production.
